We have an exciting contest this month. Read on to learn about our Practice Log Competition, February's Community Performance, and learn about upcoming festivals and events.
February is our Practice Log Competition month! Each week, the student in each level catergory who logged the most practice minutes will be allowed to choose a prize from our treasure chest. At the end of the month, the student with the highest number of practicing minutes total will win a $50 gift card to HMV!
From Saturday, February 1st to 28th, go to www.themusikshop.com and click 'log in' at the top. Once you've logged in, go to 'People' > 'Practicing Log' and select 'New Log' to record your practicing time. If you can’t remember your log in information, email us or give us a call and we’ll help you out. Helpful Hint: There is a spot on the calendar in the front of your binder to record your username and password.
Competition weeks will run from Saturdays to Fridays. The level categories are as follows:
- Beginner: 1st year to Level 2
- Junior/Intermediate: Level 3 to Grade 7
- Senior: Grades 8 to 10
- Guitar: All guitar students
February 8th - 1:30pm - Renaissance Retirement Residence
Our Composition workshops in January were a lot of fun and showcased a lot of creativity - thank you to everyone who came out!
We are looking forward to the Performance Opportunity scheduled for February 8th! This performance is being held at the Renaissance Retirement Residence (6676 203 St, Langley) at 1:30pm.
This is the perfect opportunity to show off your skills and wow the crowd! We would love to showcase some of your original compositions, but if you don't have anything composed, you can play one of your current favourites instead. If you’re not sure what you will play, ask your teacher and they can help you decide.
There is still room in this event, so sign up in the MUSiK SHOP's foyer, by phone, or by email now! You won't want to miss out on this awesome opportunity.
Each family has been sent a tax receipt from the MUSiK SHOP for 2013.
The Children's Art Tax credit is a non-refundable tax credit based on eligible expenses, up to $500, paid for the cost of lessons for a child in a prescribed program of artistic, cultural, recreational or developmental activity. For information on how to claim the Child Arts Credit, click here.
Are you interested in doing something else with your compositions? Why not enter them into a competition?
The BC Registered Music Teacher's Association's Student Composer Competition is a great way to get your music reviewed by a professional. Entrants must submit a copy of their composition to the association; they will then receive a written adjudication on each piece they enter. The winners of each division will be entered for FREE into the National Finals! First and Second place will also receive a monetary prize.
The entry deadline is April 1, 2014.
For more information, check out the entry form and regulations here.
Registration is now open for the 2014 BCCOM Music Festival!
Music festivals are a great way of getting tips and pointers before taking an exam, and also offer excellent performance opportunities. Talk to your teacher this week for more information about entering.
The registration deadline is March 8th. Click here to register online.
